Q. How long do I have to wait to walk on the floor?
A. Generally between 6-8 hours with any finish.
Q. How soon can I move my furniture back in on the newly done floors?
A. We recommend if you can to wait 72 Hrs. It will give the finish time to harden.
Q. How long should I wait to put an area rug in?
A. Wait one (1) week.
Q. How do I move appliances or heavy furniture like pianos in without scratching the floor?
A. Use Masonite, which can be purchased at any local hardware store. Have cut into pieces so you can leapfrog the pieces as you roll your appliances or furniture across.
Q. How long does a refinishing job take?
A. Typically based on 500 – 1000 Sq. Ft. if will take 3-4 Days to sand, stain, and apply two to three coats polyurethane depending on drying time.
Q. How long does a complete installation and finishing job take?
A. Typically (based on 500 – 1000 sq. ft.) the wood is delivered three to four days ahead of time and the generally 4-5 days for the completion of installation, sanding, staining and coating.
Q. Can we stay here while the floors are being done?
A. Generally we say yes. The finish has a strong odor and you do have to avoid walking on the floor for 6-8 hrs (typically most people go to work and when they come home the majority of the smell is gone). If you have strong allergies, are pregnant or have a newborn we do recommend that you leave during the process.
Q. How often should I recoat my floor?
A. Generally between 10-15 years unless you notice wear prior to that time. We due recommend on Kitchens due to the high traffic be coated between 5-7 years. This is provided your floor has been cleaned with only vinegar and water or equivalent (no wax products).
Q. I’m developing cracks in my floor. What should I do?
A. It is normal to have hairline cracks in the wintertime due to lack of moisture. To avoid getting excessive cracks you should be using a humidifier. The humidifier should be turned up all the way until condensation forms on the windows and then gradually turned down until it disappears. It will vary with the outside temperatures.
Q. I’ve just had my floors refinished and I smell gas when using my dryer or oven. What should I do?
A. Generally when having just refinished your floors we recommended you avoid using the dryer or oven for approximately 24 hrs. This will eliminate the smell in your clothes or the unpleasant odor when using the oven.
